MECS — Minor Eye Conditions Service
The Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) is a free NHS service that allows you to be seen quickly for urgent or minor eye problems without needing a GP referral. Simply self-refer and we can often see you the same day.
This service is available to all NHS patients and is provided by our qualified optometrists right here at Family Eyecare.

Key Information
Who Can Use MECS?
The service is available to all NHS patients registered with a GP in the Harrow area. You do not need a referral from your GP, optician, or pharmacist.
Is There a Charge?
No. MECS is a free NHS service. There is no charge for the consultation or any follow-up appointments related to the condition.
What Happens After?
After your assessment, we may prescribe treatment, recommend over-the-counter remedies, arrange a follow-up, or refer you to hospital eye services if the condition requires specialist care.
Opening Hours for MECS
If you experience an eye emergency outside of our opening hours, please visit your nearest A&E department or call NHS 111 for advice.
